Performing Arts

There are many ways to get involved in RMIT Union [Arts]_ Performing Arts Programs: workshops, write, perform, or work behind the scenes, original plays, musicals, children's theatre, experimental works, the classics and more. You don’t have to be an aficionado of drama, nor a consummate performer to take to the stage. All you need is tenacity, humour, and the desire to have loads of fun.

Children's Theatre Show

Each year RMIT Union Arts performs a theatre show for children full of fun, excitement and laughter. Last year being quite a success showing James and the Giant Peach, this years show will be the Big Friendly Giant (wikiedia) by Roald Dahl. Auditions will be happening in the next few months. Stay tuned!!

And on a completly different note we have as RMIT Union [Art's] Mid Year Fringe Performance:

'Shakespeare’s Festival of Gore', Titus Andronicus

BE WARNED: Empty Stomach required for this Shakespearean Splatter Classic. In this savage epic of brutal revenge told with timeless relevance, knives replace pens and body parts, are exchanged like words. Theatriaclised through a plethora of styles and eras, you won’t know whether to laugh, cry or leave!
Welcome to the bloodbath that is Titus Andronicus. (Spark notes on Titus Andronicus).

Workshops

Every year in March RMIT Union Theatre conducts a series of free workshops in practical audiovisual skills for theatre venues, as well as a special introductory performance workshop. It's a great introduction to the skills required to work in theatre.  The 2009 workshop program:

Techies and crew needed

Do we need technical crew for our productions? Of course! Do we need all types of production assistance? You bet! And not only in traditional theatre stuff, but also in areas you might not expect (like filmmaking, soundscape design, set construction, and lighting design). Training is provided for many of these roles and sometimes paid work becomes available for people who develop the right skills.

Yep, life doesn't have to be just study, study, study. Plus there's the added bonus of valuable experience and confidence – if you can scream like a banshee in front of a packed theatre audience, job interviews will be a snap!
